Everything's gettin' blowed up!

Yesterday while I was at work, Jason was making Deborah a fried egg sandwich for lunch. He said that the fire was looking a little weird, but figured it was just a little grease fire or something. Certainly some concern, but nothing that couldn't be dealt with.

Well, it was more than that! When he lifted the top of the range, the whole thing exploded! He managed not to get hurt by the flame or by the falling, shattering George Foreman grill, but nonetheless, we were sans oven for an evening. I had a message on my phone saying I had to go get Little Ceasars for supper since we couldn't cook anything (and really, with both the grill and the oven/range out, nothing was getting cooked!).

I had planned on getting a new oven when we got our tax return come March, but it was definitely not in the current budget. Even the cheapest, most basic range was still right around $400, and it just wasn't really available. But this morning Rich mentioned that when he was putting new ranges in his rental units, he found some at a local shop that refurbished them. So rather than spending $400 on a new range, we were able to do some wheeling and dealing and got a used range for $110. Woohoo! We were able to get it cheaper because they hadn't cleaned it up yet, but $.45 of windex did that job just fine. We've been doing the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace class, and I'm sure he'd have been proud of our decision to go used when we couldn't afford it outright. Plus, we didn't have to go into our emergency fund to pay for it, which is also great.

Anyway, it's all good now. I'm pretty excited about our savings and our new oven. Even a crappy, used oven is still a step up. Ours had two dysfunctional burners and this has four that work, so yeehaw! I'm still planning to save up for a truly new one in the next year and a half or so, but I'm happy to have a new one.

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving

Sorry for the delay. My parents took the kids for the week, so most of my free time has been spent catching up on some quality time with my hubby. But it's been well worth skipping the blog! ;-D

Anyway, we had a really nice Thanksgiving. We went up to my parent's house for the day. We got a few pictures during the day (see below) and it was just a pleasant day. It feels like some strain with a couple of family members, but nothing that destroyed the day or anything. Overall, it was a good visit.

I'll do a catch up here for real later this week. In the meantime, more pics of the family!

A good night

It was a good night to be a Dem last night. Not that my state contributed to the Democratic take-over of the House, but it was still nice to take the kids down to the polling station so they could watch folks (including mom) participate in the electoral process.

So now that we have at least a partially divided government (which I really do believe is in the best interest of the country), please, please, please! Don't blow it. I know the war is a sticky thing and there's not much that can be done about it. But please, TRY to get the budget under control. Please TRY to get the "Reducing the Need for Abortions and Supporting Parents Act" passed. Please TRY to get America to do things we've said we do like follow the Geneva Convention. Stuff like that. Some change that says you're actually listening to the folks who aren't very happy with the way things are right now.

No time to write much this morning. Jason ended up back out in MD for not just this week, but until December. *sigh* Work has been very helpful to me in setting up a schedule to allow me to find people to watch the kids, but man, I miss my husband. Fortunately, this weekend is the last really awful one that I'll have. In two weeks, I start my new schedule which is 10am-6:30pm, with weekends off! Woohoo! I'm really excited about being home with my family again!

Fixing bugs

Down at the call center, we do a lot of troubleshooting. But one of my co-workers had a really great troubleshoot the other night. A woman had a buggy box. Not just technical glitches, but BUGS. Cockroaches, to be more exact. Yikes!

Of course, she gets all of the good calls. Like the woman who called in complaining that her box wouldn't come on. After troubleshooting her for a while, S found out that the woman's electrical power was out in the whole house. ;-D

In happy news, my family starts coming home tomorrow! My mom is bringing Faith & Bubba home tomorrow morning, and tomorrow night, Deborah & James will be home. Then Jason comes home Friday night. I can't wait! I miss them all so stinkin' much! The R&R here was kinda' nice, but I definitely look forward to having them all back in the house. This place feels very empty without them.

Deborah & James were home last night, and I took them out trick or treating. It was really fun. James was a firefighter and Deborah was an ER doctor. They got some candy and had a good time. And I had a good time taking them out and spending some time with them walking around the neighborhood.

That's it. I've got to finish getting ready for work and then get my house together tomorrow morning for my family's return. Hooray!!!!
