Today is the last day of school for the kids. Of course, the beginning of summer vacation just begs for Alice Cooper. At least, it does in my mind. (I will freely admit that this is probably the ONLY Alice Cooper song that I even vaguely know. But still, last day of school makes me think of it every. single. time.)
Anyway, the last day of school always brings back happy memories of some of my last days of school. In high school, my friend Beth had a pool at her house (well, her parents did, but you know!). On the last day of school, our group of friends would wait out the half day in study hall, hanging out with the 10 other people who actually went to school for the last day. Then we'd pile into the cars and drive over to her house for the afternoon. We were all serious band geeks, so generally that meant that in the evening, we'd get our instruments together and play for the commencement ceremonies. We'd be all sunburned and smell like chlorine, but we always had a great time. I don't remember a lot of specifics about any of those pool parties, but I do remember just kicking back with my closest friends and enjoying a pretty darn care-free life.
What are some of your favorite end of school memories? Did you have any last day traditions? If you're a parent, do your kids have any last day traditions?
